Top 5 Childhood Halloween Movies Returning to TV

By Daphne Britt on October 22, 2016

We all know that Halloween is the spookiest time of the year (see what I did there) where we get to enjoy amazing television shows that we grew up watching and quoting every line. Plus we also know it’s not Halloween unless you’re dressed in your best costume and have a reason to begin cheating on your diet with your favorite candies. But why not do that and have the chance to watch your favorite Halloween movies that will be airing throughout the month of October on TV as the networks prepare you for the night of all hallows eve?

So here is my pick for the top five popular childhood Halloween movies premiering on TV that will make you feel like a little kid again!

Hocus Pocus

A classic that is still high in demand by all and, in my opinion, the number one Halloween movie from my childhood, is Disney’s “Hocus Pocus.”

A teenage boy lights a black candle while visiting an old museum about the Sanderson sisters with his younger sister, and a classmate. They end up bringing the Sanderson sisters back to life. The group tries to stop the sisters from stealing children’s souls with the help of a black cat.

According to Lauren Piester from eonline.com, the network Freeform will be showing childhood Halloween movies and, “If you miss them the first time, most of the movies will air again at some point, meaning you have no excuse to not be as prepared for this holiday as it’s possible to be.”

So if you missed the chance the watch “Hocus Pocus” today, or if you’ve never seen the movie you can see it again Sunday, October 23!

The Addams Family

Another one of my favorite movies is “The Addams Family,” and even though it has many versions, the one I’m focusing on is the 1991 version, as the movie made being weird amazing! A family whose gothic representation makes them seem cast out by the society in which they live in try to bond with a long lost relative who betrays them. This movie has a mixture of both the dark humor and hilarious scenes that feature weird creatures of the night.

According to Kevin O’Keeffe from mic.com, Freeform will be showing “multiple airings of The Addams Family and Addams Family Values.”

If you missed the movie Thursday night you’ll have plenty more chances to catch it on Freeform!

Halloweentown Series

Now this is a film series that made me wish “Halloweentown” was a real place because I’m quite sure they would have every type of candy and mythical creature you could think of. This movie had me so entertained I forgot it was a Disney film!

With its creative concept of an invisible town hidden from mortal eyes, and a teenage girl finds out her grandmother is a witch, it had me thinking it was canon for the “Wizarding World of Harry Potter” (but just as good).

According to Lauren Piester from eonline.com, “the film will premiere on Freeform on Tuesday October 25 at 12:00 a.m.”

So if you’re a night owl like myself, make sure you watch the “Halloweentown” series on Freeform.

It’s The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown

A classic family friendly Halloween themed film that has been around for so long that even our parents love it! The television film “It’s The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown,” shows Charlie Brown and the Peanuts gang trying to help a fellow friend as he gets Halloween confused with Christmas. This movie may be for kids, but it is still considered to be a beloved American classic for all ages.

According to Michael Cavna from washingtonpost.com, “’It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown’ — which premiered 50 years ago this month — stands as the breakaway visual achievement.”

The Peanuts gang is being introduced every year on ABC to a new generation on every special holiday, such as Thanksgiving and Christmas. But it’s the Halloween film that allows us to reminisce on our childhood and if you wish to watch the movie you can see it Friday,October 28 on ABC!

The Nightmare Before Christmas

Another Disney Halloween themed film that is being aired on Freeform and that gave us the definition of spooky, is “Tim Burton’s: The Nightmare Before Christmas.” A film that had me freaked out literally as a child because it was not your average Disney movie, as this film had dark elements but that’s what made me love the film to begin with (yes, it’s weird). This film is still setting trends in today’s pop culture that even college campuses are fans of the famous pumpkin king.

According to Brian Acunis from theyoungfolks.com, “’Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas,’ like ‘Hocus Pocus,’ is another cult classic from 1993 and is remarkably able to blend the joy of Christmas with the spooky thrill of Halloween.”

If you’ve never seen this beautifully creative film or missed it when it first aired on Freeform, then make sure you watch it on October 29!

As you count down the days until Halloween and need a movie to get you in the spooky spirit, make sure you check out these popular childhood Halloween themed movies when they premiere on TV.
